Why is my roommate’s mail in my mailbox?
If you have a roommate or roommates you all share the same mailbox. Mailboxes are assigned to a room, not a person.
How do I know when I receive a package?
If a parcel arrives for you that will not fit in your mailbox a slip will be placed in your mailbox letting you know that it has arrived.
How do I obtain a key?
To obtain your key, you need to come to the front desk - supply us with your ID, and then we assign you a key after verifying with a roster provided by Housing Services. If you lose your key the replacement fee is $3.00. Check in at the counter to return your key at the end of the Academic Year or if you move to a new location. Please do not slide your mailbox key under the mailroom door or leave it in your mailbox, if you do, you will incur a replacement fee.
How is a mailbox assigned?
Every hall and room number has been predetermined to match a mailbox number. We receive a roster from Housing Services confirming which room you have been assigned and then you will be informed which mailbox is yours.
Why do I have to sign for a package?
Every package or envelope that requires a signature for delivery also requires a signature from the recipient. This is primarily for security reasons but also accountability and tracking. If you fail to pickup your package it will be returned to the sender after 10 days.
What if my box number is not included on a box or piece of mail?
Packages and mail should be addressed properly every time you send something or have something sent to you. If your mailbox number is not included on items sent to you delivery will be delayed due to extra processes to locate your mailbox.
How do I forward my mail when I leave DePaul?
When you leave DePaul, or move off campus, you need to fill out a change of address form that you can pick up at the Post Office. You can also go online to www.usps.com and fill out the same change of address form electronically. The Student Mail Center does not forward mail. Anything that arrives for you after the academic year ends will be returned to sender.
